Independent Contractor · Fully Remote

A fully remote engagement supporting a U.S. immigration and federal litigation practice — for someone who wants substantive legal work as an independent professional.

How to Apply

Substantive Legal Work, Without Practicing

The Law Offices of Simone Bertollini is engaging a freelance legal assistant (independent contractor) to support a busy U.S. immigration and federal litigation practice. Bar admission is not required and not expected — this is a role — comparable to a remote paralegal — for someone who wants challenging, meaningful legal work without the demands of practice. All work product is submitted for the attorney’s review and approval.

01

Drafting & Legal Writing

Prepare first drafts of immigration petitions and forms, supporting statements, and litigation documents for the attorney’s review.

02

Case & Deadline Management

Organize case files, evidence, and exhibits; track filing deadlines; keep matters moving on schedule.

03

Client Communication

Correspond with clients in Italian and English — collecting documents and case information. All legal advice remains solely the attorney’s.

04

Document Review & Translation

Review and summarize records, and prepare document translations across Italian, English, and Spanish.

Who We Are Looking For

  • A bachelor’s degree in any field; candidates with some college coursework will also be considered.
  • Bar admission is not required and not expected.
  • Full professional proficiency in Italian and English, written and spoken. Spanish is a strong plus.
  • Strong computer skills — Microsoft Word and Excel, and comfort working with AI tools.
  • Fully remote work: you may be based anywhere, provided you can lawfully engage as an independent contractor under the rules of your country of residence.
  • You organize your own schedule. The work is deliverable- and deadline-driven.
  • Strong writing, meticulous attention to detail, and absolute discretion with confidential information.
Engagement terms. Independent-contractor engagement governed by a written agreement. You determine independently how, when, and where you perform the services, using your own equipment; coordination is limited to court and agency deadlines. The engagement is non-exclusive — you remain free to provide services to other clients. Fees are agreed on an hourly or per-project basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and paid in USD or EUR. A confidentiality and data-protection agreement is required, as the work involves client files.
